Central Alabama Gun Club Steel Match

Shooting in the rain

The Central Alabama Gun Club is located near Montgomery, Alabama. We offer a match similar to the Steel Challenge Shooting Association matches several times a year. Steel matches are family friendly and, unlike many shooting sports, entertaining for spectators. Speed is everything.

However, that doesn't mean that it is for advanced shooters only. The steel match is one of the best ways to introduce new shooters to the fun of shooting sports. There is little movement involved and it can be shot with rimfire pistols or rifles. As long as the shooter understands and follows the four rules of gun safety, they can join us. Hopefully, they'll find it as addictively fun as the rest of us do.

Steel matches at Central Alabama Gun Club are held on the second Saturdays of the month each. The cost of each match is $10 per shooter. Set-up begins at 8:00 a.m. CDT. Coming out to help set-up is a great way to familarize yourself with the stages and meet people. It gives us a chance to talk "shop" as we work. A shooters meeting is held at 9:45 a.m. and shooting begins at 10:00 a.m. CDT. We generally shoot five to six stages each month. Please contact us @ cagcsteelmatch at gmail.com with any questions or to be added to our announcement list. We only use the announcement list to announce upcoming matches and to send out scores after each match. We do not use your email address for any other purpose.

Four Rules of Safe Gun Handling

  • All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
  • Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. (For those who insist that this particular gun is unloaded, see Rule 1.)
  • Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
  • Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified.

We're having a lot of fun and hope to see you at the range soon.
